The Crew Centre is where both Flight and Cabin Crew report for duty. If you work at Heathrow then this is at The Compass Centre situated just to the north of runway 09L/27R. Other airports will have similar buildings but maybe not so glamourous as the Compass Centre.

While your Cabin Crew receive their own briefing, as Flight Crew you will report for your preflight briefing. During this briefing you will receive your flight plan, departure, destination and enroute weather forecasts and all the relevant information regarding your particular flight. You will also read the current NOTAMS which will inform you of things such as non-operational navigation aids, closed airways etc. As a BAV member you can obtain much of your preflight information from the OSP and once on the flight deck then ACARS will take over and provide crew details, passenger numbers, updated weather reports and much more.

In the Speedbird Online Crew Operations Centre you should be able to find most of the information you need to ensure a safe flight. Each section of the Crew Centre can be accessed from the main navigation under 'Operations'.

Every airline has Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Speedbird Online is no different. Before commencing operations with Speedbird Online please take some time to familiarise yourself with the SOP's.

When flying online it is essential to have current charts. These include airport layout diagrams showing taxiways, holds and runways, and ramp charts which show the location of aircraft gates (stands) within the terminal area. You will also require charts of Standard Instrument Departures (SID's) and Standard Arrival Routes (STAR's) for major airports.

For ease of use our Chart Library is now split into geographic areas and can be accessed from the Operations/Chart Library menu.

For organised events we will publish flight plans, but for your scheduled British Airways Virtual flights you will need to prepare your own flight plan. The BAV OSP will offer you our preferred flight plan for most scheduled services, and will also show you flight plans filed by other BAV pilots in the recent past. You can also use the flight planning tool in the OSP to prepare your own routes. You will find some advice on flight planning in the Flight Planning Department.
Weather reports for all UK airports served by British Airways, and other major UK airports plus latest weather for your destination airport can be accessed from the Weather Centre
Prior to departure you may wish to sychronise your flight deck clock with GMT or check the local time at your destination airport. You can do this from World Time Zones
